One of the big elements of Scream is the characters who are very aware of horror movies and how to survive one if they were ever put into a real-life scenario. A few sequences are noticeably softer and blurrier than others, but this is excused as inherent to the style of photography and not an issue with the encode. It even appears that a very fine layer of digital grain has been added to the image – only really noticeable over skies and larger, lighter areas, its faint, but its there. In GameSpot’s Scream 6 review, Megan Vick scored the film 8/10 and praised directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett for taking risks that “make everything bigger as a sequel should do, but their feet remain fully planted on the holy ground paved before them.

Whatever the frustrations, it's always clear that directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have true reverence for the Scream franchise and it's safe in their hands. Impressively quiet, awash with whispering atmospherics, it can suddenly turn on an instant and deliver a thunderous slam of an audio sting that seems to wash over the entire room. Campbell let it be known that she didn’t like the offer she was given to appear in this film, so she declined. The image as a whole is a little darker than its Blu-ray 1080p counterpart, but the black levels on the 4K image look much better in the darker sequences.

The fifth sequel in the franchise screams its way into home theaters with an awesome Dolby Atmos soundtrack that brings the racket and frights of the Big Apple home. HEVC 4K image leaves very little to the imagination due to its razor sharp (sorry, couldn’t resist) detail, excellent contrast and HDR that brings out the lower lows and higher highs of the spectrum.
